Claire Lloyd-Bown

Claire Lloyd-Bown Claire Lloyd-Bown, a UK-based artist, is known for her exploration of various artistic media, focusing particularly on the mechanics of painting. Her work draws inspiration from a broad range of sources, including personal experiences, dreams, and her interactions with both individuals and the natural world. She embraces a diverse set of techniques such as line drawing, photography, mixed media, and the use of found objects, allowing intuition and emotion to guide her creative process. This approach results in vibrant, raw, and dreamlike artworks that reflect a deep engagement with the subconscious.

In addition to her personal art practice, Claire’s influence extends to her work as a textile designer for the fashion and interior brand 'Stranger Than Blonde.' Her textile designs, characterized by large-scale prints and repeating patterns, are often informed by the same spontaneous and expressive qualities that mark her visual art.

Claire's career also includes significant contributions to education and public programming. As an Art and Design lecturer, Director of Education at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and Deputy Director at Newlyn Art Gallery, she has shaped numerous exhibitions and educational initiatives. These roles reflect her belief in the transformative potential of art and its capacity to connect people.

Since relocating to the Algarve in 2018, Claire has found new inspiration in the region’s natural beauty and tranquility. The landscape has become a key source of creative energy, further enriching her exploration of art, symbolism, and the educational impact of the creative process.
